Gerard McCarten
PLANNING MANAGER
With more than two decades of planning experience, Gerard has worked in both the public and private sectors of the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
For six years, he managed resource consent appeals and objections as a Principal Planner for Auckland Council and provided technical support for independent hearing commissioners, including reviewing draft decisions.
Gerard has a strong understanding of the Resource Management Act and is an expert in all aspects of consenting, hearings and appeals. He is comfortable dealing with all types of developments, from large scale, mixed-use developments to early childhood education centres, commercial developments, and rural subdivisions.
Gerard worked for a private planning and architecture firm and consulted with local authorities in and around London. Projects ranged from a high-density residential development in Canary Wharf, residential and commercial mixed-use development in central London and the West End, redevelopment of Leicester Square, an innovative privately funded affordable housing development, and redevelopment of heritage-listed buildings. Gerard was also involved in planning appeals, including at the public inquiry level.
Gerard holds the Making Good Decisions certificate (with Chairing Endorsement) and is a full member of the New Zealand Planning institute.
